About me

The life we're building, one season at a time.
I didn't start Grow, Cook, Eat because I spotted a gap in the market. I started it because I watched my nine year old daughter make lunch; a sandwich, lettuce from the garden, completely independently and I thought, this is exactly what I wanted for her.
That moment didn't happen overnight. It's the result of years of growing, cooking, and eating together as a family. Years of figuring out what actually works, what definitely doesn't, and how to hold the whole seasonal rhythm together without it falling apart by February.
I built Grow, Cook, Eat because I wanted home educating families to have the system I had to work out for myself. Season by season, failure by failure, harvest by harvest.
The life we've built
My husband and I always knew we wanted to grow our own food. That was the plan before we even had children. But it's only as our children have grown up alongside that life, our daughter is nine now, our son is six, that I've understood how much it's giving them.
My daughter needs some extra support with her learning at school. But in the kitchen, she doesn't need support from anyone. She plans meals. She cooks independently. She made lunch for the family yesterday from a lettuce she'd grown herself. The confidence she gets from that, from doing something real, from start to finish, with her own hands, is something no worksheet has ever given her.
My son is six and already asking to help cook dinner. He understands more about nutrition and ultra-processed food than most adults I know. Not because we've sat him down and taught him, but because he's lived it.
That's what the plot-to-plate life does for children. It teaches them through doing, in the way that children actually learn.
The honest bit
I'm not a trained chef. I'm not a professional horticulturalist. I've never run a farm or studied nutrition formally.
What I am is someone who has spent years learning what works through genuine trial and error, in a real garden, with a real family, in the real rhythm of the seasons.
Last year we couldn't grow pumpkins to save our lives. The seeds didn't germinate. The one that did got eaten, not by us. No pumpkin soup that autumn. No Halloween carving. We bought one from the supermarket and pretended it had always been the plan.
That's the real version of this life. The failed germination alongside the harvest. The bought pumpkin next to the homegrown lettuce. I show both because that's what makes the goal feel reachable rather than something you'll always be watching from the outside.
What I've learned
Growing your own food and cooking it from scratch is far more achievable than the internet makes it look.
You don't need a large garden. You don't need specialist knowledge or expensive equipment. You don't need to do it perfectly. You just need a clear next step and someone who's already made the mistakes to show you the path through.
That's what Grow, Cook, Eat is. A simple, seasonal, step by step system that holds the whole plot-to-plate journey together for your family, from first seed to family meal with the learning woven in naturally, the way it should be.
Not a lesson plan. Not an aspirational lifestyle brand. Just a real family, following the seasons, and a guide that makes it feel achievable for yours.
Who is this for?
Grow, Cook, Eat is built for home educating families who want growing and cooking to be part of their everyday rhythm, not a one-off project, not a screen-free afternoon activity, but the thread that runs through the whole week.
Families where the children are active participants, not just observers.
Families who want the learning to count, science, maths, literacy, but don't want to turn every meal into a lesson plan.
Families who are done watching other people live this life on Instagram and are ready to actually start.
